The Dead Boxes

We should talk about the Dead Boxes. There’s no doubt they’re scary things, we certainly won’t quibble over that. At first glance, they appear to be harmless everyday objects. That old mobile phone lying in a drawer, the battered toy dog at the end of the bed, a cobwebbed piece of sculpture in the loft. Any and all could be Dead Boxes. Look a little closer and you may notice something that strikes you as unusual or odd. It’s not guaranteed, Dead Boxes have a nasty habit of only revealing themselves when it suits. Whether you see it or not, each Dead Box is beyond rare. A container of mystery and miracle, horror and salvation.

Dead Boxes Lore

Yes, there’s every possibility that you could have one and not know it. Take care. As mentioned, none are the same. Except in one regard. You don’t need one. You really don’t. Believe me.

Most bring nothing but misery. A Dead Box can corrupt and contaminate the owner unless handled with extreme care and a great deal of respect. It’s perhaps better that many lie dormant and unnoticed. Your life will be changed forever, should you happen upon one and awaken its influence.

Some say that the Dead Boxes are crafted by dark artisans from a substance which fell through a crack in the past. Sundered parts of a greater whole. Others that they are human objects imbued with the essence of those entities which don’t belong in our dimension.

Rumours and speculation, of course. Tales lost in the mists of time, known only through word of mouth and obscure writings. You’ll understand, I couldn’t possibly comment on such musings.

Dead Boxes Stories

There are a number of Dead Boxes stories and books, listed below. Themes and events in Dead Boxes lore cross over with the Scaeth Mythos. The two are interwoven, separate, but intimately linked.

A Dead Box also features in the Bad Pennies novel. Indeed it’s an integral part of the narrative. But whilst at times overlapping with the Scaeth Mythos, the Dead Boxes are a distinctly separate entity. They’re their own very definite kettle of stinky fish.

Call Drops

Vincent likes nothing more than rootling round second-hand shops in search of the interesting and unusual. Items that are lost and forgotten. That’s all about to change. He’s about to find something that is perhaps better left unfound. A darkly swirling mix of quiet horror and terrifying mystery.

Doggem

Sentience? I’m just a throwaway toy, an inanimate object. How can I have thought and emotion? Opinion and experience? I’d shrug my shoulders if I could. The world is brimful of mystery. Doggem is a tale of toy dogs and dark deeds.
